Custom List Collections

Simkl’s Custom List Collections feature lets you group related lists together—making it easy for members to explore multiple lists under a single theme. By using a consistent list title and adding custom button names, you can automatically generate navigation buttons that link your lists together.

How can you insert buttons in a list that link to other lists within a collection?

When you add 2 or more lists with the same title, you can organize them and automatically link to each other by adding (Button Name) at the end of the list with the same title.

Example If you create two lists called

• Star Wars Franchise (TV Shows)

• Star Wars Franchise (Movies)

Simkl will automatically generate two buttons—“TV Shows” and “Movies”—at the top of each list, enabling you to toggle between the two Star Wars collections.

How to Create a Custom Collection

Follow these steps to build your first collection:

1. Create Your First List

   • Go to Lists → Create New List on Simkl.

   • Enter your desired Title, e.g., Mystery TV Shows (Most Watched).

   • Populate the list with your selected shows and save.

2. Duplicate the Core Title for Additional Lists

   • Create a second list with the same core title but a different category in parentheses:

     • Mystery TV Shows (Recently Aired)

     • Mystery TV Shows (Top Ranked)

3. Add Button Names in Parentheses

   • Ensure each list name ends with a unique button label in parentheses.

     • The text inside ( ) becomes the navigation button’s label.

     • Examples: (TV), (Movies), (Horror), (Watch Order)

4. Save and View Your Collection

   • Visit any list within the collection.

   • You’ll see a collection banner at the top, displaying buttons linking all lists in that group.

Collection Button Mechanics

• Automatic Linking Simkl automatically links any lists sharing the exact core title—even if created by different users—provided the text outside parentheses matches.

• Button Labels The content inside parentheses in each list’s title determines the button label.

  • E.g., My Favorite Anime (Complete Series) yields a button labeled Complete Series.

• Order of Buttons Buttons appear in alphabetical order of the text within parentheses. Rename or adjust titles to reorder buttons as desired.

Tips & Best Practices

• Consistent Core Title Ensure every list in your collection shares the exact same text outside parentheses (case-sensitive)in order to link related lists.

• Unique Button Names Use clear, concise button labels that describe each list’s content (e.g., (Blu-ray Releases), (Highest Rated)).

• Update Titles for Reordering To change the button order, rename button labels alphabetically—e.g., (A–Z) appears before (Z–A).
