SIMKL Calendar: Unified Release Tracking Across TV, Anime & Movies

The SIMKL Calendar is a dynamic scheduling system that allows users to track upcoming episodes, premieres, finales, and movie releases in a structured, highly customizable interface.

It consolidates airing data across all supported media types and aligns it with your personal tracking activity, watchlists, and viewing history.

With the latest upgrades including Combined Personal Calendars, enhanced viewing modes, intelligent filtering, and a faster rendering engine the Calendar now functions as a centralized release command center.

Whether you're tracking weekly TV shows, seasonal anime, or upcoming movie premieres, the SIMKL Calendar adapts to your preferences and delivers a highly controllable, clutter-free experience.

Combined Personal Calendar

The Combined Personal Calendar merges your tracked TV Shows, Anime, and Movie premieres into a single unified monthly view. This eliminates the need to switch between separate sections and gives you one consolidated schedule for all media types you follow.

Accessible via: https://simkl.com/my/calendar/arrow-up-right

This view integrates:

  • Episodes from your TV watchlist

  • Anime releases you track

  • Movie premieres and digital releases

  • Items from your Plan-to-Watch list

On desktop, it can be accessed from the top right of the dashboard. On mobile, it appears within the “Airing Next” section.

The combined calendar intelligently merges all release types while preserving filtering and sorting controls, ensuring the experience remains organized even with high-volume tracking.

Dedicated Calendar Views (TV, Anime, Movies)

In addition to the unified calendar, SIMKL maintains dedicated calendar sections for each content type. These are optimized for users who prefer to focus on a single medium.

Available at:

Each dedicated view offers:

  • Full month navigation

  • Previous/Next month switching

  • Airing indicators

  • Premiere markers

  • Finale indicators

This separation ensures flexibility: use the Combined Calendar for holistic tracking, or switch to specific calendars for focused monitoring.

Enhanced Viewing Modes

The updated Calendar introduces multiple display styles, allowing users to choose how content is visually presented. Each mode prioritizes different types of information density and visual clarity.

List View

List View provides a clean, structured format displaying upcoming airings in a vertical chronological order. It highlights the top-ranked upcoming airings (up to four) using poster thumbnails alongside textual details.

This mode is ideal for users who:

  • Prefer structured readability

  • Focus on time/date accuracy

  • Want quick scanning without visual overload

It emphasizes clarity over decoration.

Posters View

Posters View transforms the calendar into a visual grid of show posters organized by day. This layout increases visual recognition and reduces reliance on textual scanning.

It is particularly useful when:

  • Tracking multiple titles visually

  • Browsing casually

  • Recognizing shows by artwork

This mode balances aesthetics and usability, making it popular among users managing large watchlists.

Fanart View

Fanart View uses full-width background art from shows to create a visually immersive schedule experience. It maximizes artwork exposure while preserving schedule details.

This mode is optimized for:

  • Visual-first browsing

  • High-resolution display environments

  • Users who enjoy cinematic presentation

It transforms the calendar from a simple scheduling tool into a rich content display.

Advanced Filtering Controls

The new filtering system provides granular control over what appears on the calendar. These filters allow users to reduce clutter and focus on relevant release types.

Hide Watched

This toggle removes episodes or content that you have already marked as watched. It ensures that only upcoming or incomplete items remain visible.

Best used when:

  • Tracking future releases only

  • Avoiding confusion from past episodes

  • Managing large weekly schedules

Hide In My List

This filter removes titles already present in your watchlist, helping you focus on discovering new or untracked releases.

It is especially useful when browsing the public TV or Anime calendar to explore content outside your personal tracking ecosystem.

Hide Non-Premieres

This option filters out regular episodes and displays only:

  • Series premieres

  • Season premieres

It simplifies discovery during heavy release months.

Finales Filter

The Finales toggle isolates:

  • Season finales

  • Series finales

  • Mid-season finales

This filter is available on TV calendars and full-month TV & Anime release views.

It helps users:

  • Avoid missing major conclusion episodes

  • Prepare for season wrap-ups

  • Track end-of-run series

Additional Features in SIMKL Calendar

1. Movie DVD & Digital Release Integration

The Combined Calendar now incorporates:

  • DVD releases

  • Digital releases

  • Streaming launch dates

These are pulled directly from your Plan to Watch movie list.

This means your calendar does not only show theatrical premieres — it also tracks when movies become available digitally, ensuring no missed home-viewing opportunities.

2. Performance & Engine Improvements

The upgraded Calendar system is powered by a faster rendering engine. Performance improvements include:

  • Faster page loading

  • Reduced lag during month navigation

  • Improved filter responsiveness

  • Efficient data querying across media types

Even with high-volume data (hundreds of tracked shows), the interface remains smooth and responsive.

This ensures scalability as user watchlists grow.

3. Status & Watchlist Awareness

The Calendar dynamically checks:

  • Watched status

  • Watchlist inclusion

  • Plan-to-watch entries

It visually distinguishes items based on your interaction history, allowing you to instantly understand:

  • What you’ve seen

  • What you’re planning to watch

  • What is upcoming

This contextual awareness transforms the calendar from a static schedule into a personalized release intelligence system.

4. Cross-Device Accessibility

The Calendar is fully accessible across:

  • Desktop

  • Mobile web

  • Responsive dashboard widgets

On mobile, it integrates directly with “Airing Next,” allowing quick-glance access without navigating deep menus.

The UI adapts to screen size while preserving filters and view modes.

Why the Calendar Matters

The SIMKL Calendar is not merely a date display. It is a multi-layered tracking system that merges:

  • Personal watchlists

  • Airing schedules

  • Premiere tracking

  • Finale alerts

  • Digital movie releases

  • Viewing status logic

It replaces fragmented tracking tools with a centralized timeline of everything relevant to your entertainment habits.

Instead of juggling multiple sources, the Calendar consolidates all release intelligence into a single adaptive interface.
