Simkl's advanced filtering engine analyzes your viewing history and preferences to provide tailored suggestions for movies, TV shows, and anime based on 20+ different filters. This ensures that you always have something new and interesting to watch.

You can access your **Personalized Recommendations** from **Profile** > **My recommendations** or by visiting <https://simkl.com/my/recommendations/>

## How It Works

You can sort and filter each list to narrow down exactly what you want—whether you prefer recent releases, highly rated titles, or hidden gems that match a specific combination of tags.

{% endhint %}

1. Visit your profile and click on “Recommendations.” You will see separate sections for TV shows, anime, and movies. Each has two lists (V1 and V2) running side by side.
2. You can change the sort order to anything you like: rank, average rating, number of votes, number of people who have watched or plan to watch, and more.
3. If you want to refine further, use the filters provided. For example, you can choose a specific year range, select minimum or maximum average rating, or even filter by streaming platform availability if that metadata exists.
4. If your watchlist has changed—if you added new titles or marked something as watched—you can click <mark style="color:yellow;">“Refresh Recommendations”</mark> to generate an updated set of suggestions instantly.

## Frequently Asked Questions

### <mark style="color:$primary;">**How often are my recommendation lists updated?**</mark>

Your recommendation lists update when you choose to refresh them.

Simply click the **“Refresh Recommendations”** button on the Recommendations page to generate new suggestions—this can be done once per day to ensure you’re always seeing the latest results.

If you add new shows or movies to your watchlist or mark something as “watched,”click the “Refresh Recommendations” button on the Recommendations page to generate the latest suggestions right away.

### <mark style="color:$primary;">Can I remove titles I’ve already seen from my recommendations?</mark>

By default, Simkl’s recommendation engines exclude titles you have already marked as “Watched” or have on your “Plan to Watch” list.

If you notice something that appears despite this, it may be due to a temporary data sync issue.

Refresh your list or double-check that the title is correctly marked in your watch history. If the problem persists, reach out to support.

### <mark style="color:$primary;">Will these recommendation lists include content that is no longer available on streaming services?</mark>

Yes. Recommendation lists are based on Simkl’s database of TV shows, anime, and movies, regardless of current streaming availability. If you want to find content restricted to a particular platform, use filters or tags that specify streaming service availability (for example, Netflix Originals). That way, you can focus only on titles that are currently viewable on services you have access to.

### <mark style="color:$primary;">Why do some recommendation lists have thousands of titles while others have only a few hundred?</mark>

The number of titles depends on how broad or niche your viewing history and tag combinations are. If your watch history covers many genres and decades, the algorithm might generate a larger pool of possible matches. Conversely, if you have a very narrow focus—say, you only watch historical dramas—there may be fewer titles that meet those specific criteria.

### <mark style="color:$primary;">What happens if I’m not a PRO or VIP member?</mark>

Currently, Personalized Recommendations are available only to PRO and VIP members. If you’re using a free account, you will see an invitation to upgrade when you visit the Recommendations page. Upgrading unlocks these custom lists along with other premium features such as advanced watchlist filters and priority support.

### <mark style="color:$primary;">Can I share a recommendation list with friends?</mark>

Yes. Each recommendation list has a “Share” button that generates a shareable link. You can post that link on social media or send it directly to a friend. If your list is private, only users you explicitly share with will be able to view it. Public lists can be discovered by anyone searching the Simkl Custom Lists section with the “Recommendations” filter enabled.

### <mark style="color:$primary;">What should I do if my recommendation lists seem incorrect or outdated?</mark>

* First, click “Refresh Recommendations” to ensure the latest data is used.
* If the issue remains—such as missing tags, incorrect sorting, or repeated titles—check that your watch history and tags are up to date.
* Sometimes a title you marked as “Watched” may not sync automatically right away.
* If problems persist, contact Simkl support with a description of the issue so that the engineering team can investigate further.

### <mark style="color:$primary;">Where else can I find community recommendation lists?</mark>

* Go to the Custom Lists page under “Discover,” then enable the “Recommendations” filter.
* There you will see thousands of custom recommendation lists generated by other Simkl members. You can sort and filter those lists just like your own.
* Community lists are a great way to see what similar users enjoy and to find additional hidden gems.
