Add New Movie
How to add a new movie Title on TMDB
Adding new titles to The Movie Database (TMDB) ensures that SIMKL and other connected services have access to accurate, up-to-date information about movies.
TMDB is a community-driven platform, meaning anyone can contribute by adding or updating data.
This guide focuses only on how to add a new movie to TMDB.
If you’re looking for how to add or edit other details (like episodes, alternative titles, staff, crew, or translations), please refer to the detailed guide here:

Where to Add a New Title
You can add new titles directly on the TMDB Add page.
Direct Link:
Step 1: Check if the Title Already Exists
Before adding anything, verify the title is not already listed on TMDB.
Visit TMDB.org.
Use the Search bar at the top to look for the title (try variations or translated names).
If the movie or show already exists, open it and use the Edit option instead of creating a duplicate.

Step 2: Access the “Add New” Option
Once confirmed, it doesn’t exist:
Click the ➕ (Add) icon on the top menu.
Choose one of the following:
Add New Movie – for films or feature-length content
Add New TV Show – for episodic series or web dramas

Step 3: Start the Add Wizard
TMDB uses a step-by-step creation wizard to guide you through the process.
Click “Add New Movie” or “Add New TV Show.”
Review the on-screen notes. TMDB will remind you:
You’re adding a movie (not a TV show)
TV or mini-series content belongs under TV Shows
Follow the correct category for the content type
Click Next to continue.

Step 4: Enter the Required Details
In the Movie Details section, fill in the following fields:
Original Title
The movie’s official title in its original release language.
Overview
A short plot summary in English (minimum 10 characters).
IMDb ID
Optional, but strongly recommended. Helps cross-link databases.
💡 Tip: Use official or trusted sources (studio websites, IMDb, WikiData, etc.) to confirm spelling and details.

Step 5: Translation and TV Content Check
After entering basic details, TMDB will:
Check if the movie already exists in another language.
Confirm that it isn’t a TV show or mini-series accidentally placed under Movies.
You can continue only if both checks pass.
Step 6: Check for Duplicates
TMDB automatically scans for potential duplicates. If your movie appears on the list, you don’t need to re-add it, instead, edit that entry or add a translation.
If it’s not listed, check the box that says:
“I don’t see the item I’m trying to add, let’s continue adding it!”
Click Next to proceed.

Step 7: Add Additional Details
This step allows you to enhance the listing with extra details. While optional, it’s highly encouraged.

Click Finish to submit your title.
Note: All entries go through a quick review to ensure no duplication or rule violation before going live.
